Despite my usual prejudice, the nose on this is really rather fabulous. Mature Semillon notes of dried honey, candle wax, lanolin and banana join Sauvignon's pleasantly vegetal signature of cut grass, spring peas and gooseberry. The alcohol is restrained and the acidity is still very much on form making for rather joyous current consumption. On the finish, ripe melon and passionfruit combine with lees contact to drive a lingering finish with little or no new oak. Drink Now – MP
Atticus La Croyance, Single Vineyard, Estate Grown, Margaret River
A pronounced nose, showing ginger, dried flowers, marzipan and hazelnut, that suggests it is more developed than the 2010 - curious! On the palate, this is exceptionally convincing, with stone fruit, waxy notes, dried fruit and nuts, full body, and genuine depth of flavour. This is an outstanding white that would be difficult to replicate from elsewhere in the world in such an elegant, unoaked style. A joy to be able to drink mature Western Australian whites and proof that they deserve a place in anyone's cellar. 2022-2024 – MP
