Bodegas Manzanos

Manzanos is a 5th generation, family-run winery (with the 6th generation now in training, although both under 10 years old!). Founded in 1890, the Manzanos family built a small winery in Azagra, the town where the current winery is still located. It was in the 1990s that Victor Fernández de Manzanos Pastor studied winemaking and returned to Azagra to build a modern winery which became Bodegas Manzanos. Sadly, Victor died suddenly in 2010 and his two young sons (only 19 and 17 at the time) had to take over the running of the bodega. Victor and David are still in charge and have taken the winery from being a medium size to one of the most important in Rioja as well as neighbouring Navarra. They are dedicated to their own vines as well as managing contracted vineyards, a lot owned by family members (cousins, uncles etc), and by extending further into organic production. They own organic vineyards in each of the three regions of Rioja – Alta, Alavesa and Oriental – and some of the oldest vines.
