The Hemel-en-Aarde is divided into three distinct “wards” (vineyard sub-zones) due to differences in topography, soils and mesoclimates. The Upper Hemel-en-Aarde is the largest, central area planted on sloping hillsides with mixed shale, sandstone and decomposed granite soils.
