Spain has the largest acreage of old vines of any wine-producing country in the world. Botas de Barro (or “muddy boots”) wines pay homage to the generations of farmers who have tramped through vineyards to work the vines. Botas de Barro Ribera del Duero, produced from 100-year-old bush vines, has appealing coconut, vanilla, cola cubes (a British candy) and cinnamon oak, which initially mask red-apple fruit aromas. It is light bodied with a grainy texture and slightly drying finish and was matured in American oak.
