The vineyards of Monsant lie in the foothills of the mountain of Montsant between 300 and 700 metres. Albert Jané works with plots of twisted and gnarled 60 to 80-year-old vines which have struggled in the barren landscape to survive. His 2017 Braó has floral, redcurrant and raspberry aromas. It is firm on the palate with berry flavours combined with vanilla and a warm elegant finish. A blend of 90% Cariñena and 10% Garnacha, it was aged for 12 months in new and one-year-old French oak barrels. Delicious to drink now, it can be cellared further and should reach its peak in five to eight years.
