Merlot doesn’t like too much heat, so does well in California’s Central Coast, benefitting from the cooling effect of the Ocean. Butterfly Ridge 2018 Merlot has aromas of ripe fruits, dark and red cherries and menthol. Grapes were grown on the eastern side of Santa Maria. Vines were planted in 1988 on sandy loam soils on an east-west axis. It is a medium bodied wine with a linear structure, firm acidity and balsamic finish.
