A subtle wine with discrete aromas of greengage and floral notes, it is quite light in body. The little town of Sancerre on the left bank of the Loire River has been recognized the world over for its unoaked white wines made from Sauvignon. No doubt its proximity to Paris and presence in the capital’s bars and brasseries helped its exposure to the world. 3,000 hectares of vines are cultivated on the region’s limestone soils.
Cecile Lebrun Pouilly-Fume AOP Pouilly-Fume
Across the river from Sancerre, the town of Pouilly-sur-Loire makes very similar style Sauvignon wines. Cécile Lebrun Pouilly-Fumé 2021 has elderflower and nettle aromas. It has substance and depth on the palate with flinty characters, citrus flavours and a sour lime finish. Sauvignon was grown on two terroirs: Portlandian limestone and flinty clay.
