Chateau Taillefer

A voluptuous wine with coconut, blackcurrant, vanilla, and pâtisserie aromas, with a touch of savoury meat, the bouquet has immediate appeal and good depth. The same ripe characters follow onto the palate, which is smooth and concentrated. It is rich with supple tannins perfectly balanced by the acidity with dark fruits, cherry and woody flavours. Since 1923, the Mouiex family has owned the estate with a history dating back to the 18th century. Today, it is run by Claire Mouiex and her husband Cyril Basteau. The estate has 12 hectares of vines located on the southern side of Pomerol’s plateau. The name Taillefer, meaning “carved iron,” is a reflection of the high iron oxides content of the soil. The soil is composed of silica and gravel over the famous blue clay. A blend of 81% Merlot, and 19% Cabernet Franc, it was fermented in concrete tanks then matured for 12 months in barrels with 40% new oak.
