Chioccioli Altore Toscana IGT Chioccioli, 2013

Chioccioli’s “Super Tuscan” Altoré is a blend of equal parts of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon – so called Super Tuscan because the high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon is not permitted under DOCG regulations which dictate a minimum of 80% Sangiovese. Deep in colour, it has a complex and mature bouquet with blackberry, black olive, woodlands, green leaf, earth and some dusty oak. It is medium to full-bodied with good structure and not yet at its peak. It is quite weighty with good fruit on the mid palate and a fine texture. Grapes were handpicked into small boxes and cooled overnight. After double sorting, the grapes were filled into open barrels and left to ferment with a long maceration on skins. The wine was then matured in small French oak barrels for 18 months.
