Mature undergrowth aromas combine with violets and a slightly dusty oak character. The palate is quite firm, although it has quite a light mid-palate weight. Raisined fruits and treacle cede to some chewy tannins and a drying astringency.
Clos Cantenac AOC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
Blackcurrant, green leaf, and smoke with some dusty oak aromas combine in a restrained bouquet. The 2014 is structured with tight fruits leading to a firm chewy finish. The 2014 growing season followed what was the wettest winter in Bordeaux since 2001. A warmer than average March encouraged early bud break, and sunny weather in April led to a surge in growth in the vines three weeks earlier than the previous 2013 vintage. Changeable weather during the summer and cool nights slowed progress, with grapes picked under weeks of glorious sunshine from September 24.
Clos Cantenac AOC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
Sweet, ripe fruit aromas combine with pine, incense, rosemary, vanilla and cherry menthol in a complex bouquet. The palate is rich and concentrated with more ripe fruits and good structure. Red fruits morph into bitter cherry and a long woody finish. 2015 was a wonderful growing year, providing vines did not suffer from the dry conditions. The deep gravel and clay limestone soils at Clos Cantenac retain moisture. Harvest started early in September, with grapes picked in the cool early morning before the mercury hit 25°C and higher in the afternoons.
