Last year, the 2015 Les Perrières Côte de Nuits-Villages from Domaine Désertaux-Ferrand was a Coup de Cœur. The 2016 is also a star and was only just marginally pipped to the post for the same accolade. For members who enjoy fine elegant Burgundy, you will not be disappointed. While quite pale in colour, it has lots of red berry fruits and typical Pinot notes with herbs, vermouth and mint. It is soft and smooth with redcurrant flavours, light to medium bodied with a silky texture and good mid palate fruit. This is an elegant wine which opens in the glass to reveal raspberry fruits and an intense finish. Les Perrières grapes come from a 2.6-hectare plot with good exposition and were picked by hand. After cold maceration and fermentation for 15 days, the wine was matured in oak for twelve months. The 2016 was awarded a gold medal at the Concours des Vins de Mâcon last year and we immediately requested the domaine to keep stock for Opimian members.
