Medium garnet hue. Fulsome nose with an extra gear over the Rosso. Lengthy maturation in botte adds notes of coffee, dark chocolate and baking spice and this frames Sangiovese’s heady florals, black and red fruit and complex notes of forest floor and tobacco. A beefy red, this flexes those southern Brunello muscles with layers of fruit and tannins vying for attention, dried cranberry and strawberry seasoned with a savoury edge, liquorice and leathery tones on the top. The high alcohol adds even more power but it floats like a butterfly across the tongue like the proverbial heavyweight. This is an epic red and one that is remarkably enjoyable right now although there is no rush. Enjoy this – I took it home after the tasting! 2027-2031 – MP
