Slightly lighter in colour and structure than the Cabernet Sauvignon, Hook & Ladder 2016 Merlot has no less concentration of flavour. The nose is currently more expressive with enticing aromas of patisserie and blueberry muffins with a touch of spice. On the palate, a leafy edge gives a savoury aspect that complements the fruit giving the wine depth. A higher proportion of new oak (25%) was used to mature the wine for 18 months.
