K1 Special Release Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot, Adelaide Hills, 2021

Who better than Geoff Hardy to kick off our 50th year with a very special wine made exclusively to mark this celebration? The 2021 K1 Special Release Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot is meticulously crafted from cool climate grapes grown in the Adelaide Hills’ cru of Kuitpo. The vines, growing in the rich ironstone and sandstone soil, are part of Geoff’s original plot planted in the late eighties. Old vines, such as these, tend to be less vigorous. Producing a smaller yield focuses the vines’ energy, resulting in optimal ripening and flavour concentration. This wine engages with expressive aromatics of dark chocolate-dipped black fruit lifted by a pop of mint. On the palate, layers of plum, mocha, blackberry, raspberry and mint are framed by firm, velvety tannins.
