The world’s finest Chardonnay wines are generally grown on limestone soils: think Côte d'Or, Burgundy, Chablis and the like. So it is the limestone soil in the Lower Duivenhoks River vineyard that first attracted Richard’s attention. Just one grower planted a single block of Chardonnay to the CY95 Dijon clone. This is an elegant wine with poise and length. Youthful, it has not developed the full toasty character on display in previous vintages, but rather a delicious creamy vanilla character and fine layers of texture.
