A kiss of vanilla complements intense black currants, blueberries, blackberries and other crushed fruit aromas. On the palate, this wine is smooth with a slight grainy texture. It is relatively simple in terms of flavours but makes up for it in terms of concentration with a delicious bitter blackberry finish. Rufete, an ancient variety believed to come originally from Spain, forms the basis of this wine. It was blended with 40% Tempranillo and 5% Garnacha. Grapes came from selected plots over 80 years old at Mogarraz in the Sierra de Francia natural reserve southwest of Salamanca – a city famous for its university, founded in the 11th century, and where it is said the finest Castilian Spanish is spoken.
