It's no coincidence that this offer looks to the lesser-known appellations in Burgundy. The Hautes-Côtes, humble Bourgogne Blanc et Rouge, top-drawer Côte Chalonnaise and Macon all allow lovers of Burgundy to experience great Chardonnay and Pinot without breaking the bank. Nuits, in many ways, flies under the radar in much the same way. The terroir here (next door to Vosne-Romanée) is capable of real genius and this typifies the showy generosity of the top wines from this commune. A nimble nose of strawberry, currant and pomegranate integrates with a whiff of white pepper, vanilla and clove. There is a firm bite to the tannins – this is Nuits after all – and some sweet spice added to the mix. This is compact, versatile and absolutely classic Pinot. 2022-2025 – MP
