Vignerons Ardechois

In the 19th century, Chatus was widely cultivated on the light sandstone soils of the Cévennes Mountains. It is the oldest grape of the region and is referenced in writings from the 16th century. Monnaie d'Or 2020 is relatively light in structure. It has aromas of blackcurrant with caramel, vanilla and coffee. Grown by a handful of growers on terraced slopes bordered by dry stone walls locally called “faisses.” The oldest plot dates to 1883 in the village of Vernon. Chatus is a late-ripening variety. The grapes were picked by hand and the wine was partly aged in top-quality oak.
