Deep ruby hue. I don't want to like this quite as much as I do – it's an absolute monster of a wine with masses of tannins, fruit and acidity. There is a stunning nose of cassis, black pepper, bay, black cherry, black plum, vanilla, clove, resin, griottes and tobacco. If you are looking for full-throttle reds, then look no further – this has everything in spades: gobbets of black fruit, firm tannins, avgas levels of alcohol, and enough acidity to hold it all in check.
