The Roggiano cuvée is made up predominantly of Sangiovese, with a small percentage of Alicanté completing the blend. Alicanté, formally called Alicanté Bouschet, is what is known as a tenturier grape. As opposed to most grapes whose pulp is colourless, Alicanté has deep red-hued flesh. The grape is often used to add colour to blends. This cuvée is indeed inky in colour, with earthy red and dark fruit aromas. The palate reveals subtle barnyard nuances, alongside its bright fruity flavours. Finishes with lifted acidity and weighty, fine-grained tannins. Needs time to soften. 2025-2035 – JB
