Seriously Old Dirt by Vilafonte WO Western Cape, 2021

The Mediterranean microclimate surrounding the Vilafonté vineyards, influenced by the proximity of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, is ideal for viticulture. The hand-harvested fruit is carefully crafted by winemaker Arlene Mains into one of South Africa’s most iconic wines - Seriously Old Dirt. The 2021 bottling is a blend of 88 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 2% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Franc. As with all Vilafonté wines, the first impression is one of fine craftsmanship. The bouquet progresses through tiers of blackberry, cranberry and cedar opening up to the aroma of fresh mint. A sip reveals fine-grained tannins supporting a bounty of black and red fruit. While delicious today a few years in cellar will unleash this wine’s true magic. 2025 -2033 – LW
