Tuscany is well known for its Sangiovese-based wines, however, over the years it has also created a welcoming home for international red varieties, such as Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Under the Tuscan sun, these varieties, of French origin, showcase a riper fruit profile, with softer yet still noticeable tannins. They may not be true natives, but they are popular choices that have become part of the fabric, contributing to Tuscany’s global appeal.

FEBO, IGT COSTA TOSCANA MERLOT, 2021

Opaque ruby-coloured red wine, showing intense dark cherry, dark plum and bramble character, supported by earthy  layers and cloves. The full-bodied, dark fruit palate is further enriched by wild sage and thyme, with grippy tannins suggesting that a few years of bottle ageing won’t go amiss. 2028-2032–HM

VELATHRI, IGT COSTA TOSCANA CABERNET FRANC, 2021

Medium ruby hue. Despite high level of ripeness, this is a wine that retains Cabernet Franc's typical crunchiness. It is big and burly, sporting flavours of tea leaf, violets and dark cherry. The tannins and oak will need cellar time to integrate thoroughly, although when they do, this will be a peach. 2027-2035–NH
