Grape Variety
Producer
A smooth white wine with broad structure, fresh grapefruit flavours and supple mineral finish: the Godello grape is back in fashion. On the verge of extinction, it is now growing in demand in its homeland, Galicia, in Spain’s northwest. Via Nova Godello grapes are grown on slopes with an inclination of 30% around Éntoma, Regueirón, Valdemioto and O Serro on mostly slate soils.
Via Nova Mencia DO Valdeorras Virgen del Galir
Aromas of fresh herbs, cut grass with a hint of leather lead to a relatively light wine. Sour redcurrant and yogurt flavours emerge on the palate leading to a grippy astringent finish. Mencía is another grape variety on the up – found in Spain as well as Portugal where it is known as Jaen. Mencía was grown on terraced vineyards on clay and decomposed schist soils around the village of Éntoma, Valderrosal and Valdemioto.
Vina Lobera Crianza DOCa. Rioja
A dense and full-bodied wine, 2017 was characterized by low yields due to a late-spring frost and drought conditions. Viña Lobera Crianza 2017 has a savoury character on the nose with some dusty oak notes. It is tight but opens up to reveal black fruits and smoky notes on the palate. A powerful wine produced from a blend of 85% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha Tinta and Mazuelo grown in the Rioja Alta. It was matured for a year in American oak barrels.
