A wonderfully vibrant blend of Grenache and Zinfandel hailing from ungrafted, pre-Phylloxera clonal selections. The nose offers alluring notes of crushed red berries with underlying licorice and floral hints. Similar flavours play across the palate and are lifted by bright, tangy acidity. Quite plush in style with fine-grained tannins and lingering dark chocolate hints. 2023-2028 – JB
Casa Nueva Family Wines Gran Reserva Syrah Carmenère, Central Valley
The Casa Nueva wines from Viña Echeverria are crafted according to high sustainability standards. This Syrah-Carménère blend is aged for a year in seasoned French oak barrels, giving great structure and very subtle spiced nuance to the wine. Dark fruit aromas mingle with hints of tar on the nose. The palate is weighty yet fresh, with quite approachable tannins. 2023-2030 – JB
El Barrio Carignan Maule Valley Natural Wine from Chile
The 2022 El Barrio Carignan, one of our four Coup de Coeur for this Cellar, is unoaked and unfiltered with no added sulfite. In the tasting, it scored exceptionally high for concentration and complexity. It is a polished wine with an intriguing tension between its pristine black fruit and savoury notes. 2023-2024 – JB
