The Smuggler's Boot Chardonnay Western Cape, 2019

Another stunning wine that could easily outshine many a white Burgundy. Intense and complex with aromas of vanilla toast, pineapple, and white peach. It is medium-bodied, with layers of toasty oatmeal, noisette and nectarine flavours. Four French Chardonnay clones were combined – CY95, CY96, CY76 and CY548. Handpicked between February 25 and March 18, 2019, the bunches were whole bunch pressed with half the juice fermented in old French oak barrels, half in breathable plastic egg-shaped tanks. The wine was matured for eight months on yeast lees giving the wine its creamy texture.
