Thistledown Fool on the Hill Grenache Mattschoss Vineyard, Eden Valley, 2021

This is Grenache’s signature red fruit compote seasoned with a dash of white pepper. It’s a recipe that looks to the Northern Rhône and helps balance the weight of fruit on the palate. The cool climate is showing its colours with brisk acidity, and there’s a little more tannic grip than one would expect – but this just serves to remind us that Grenache is capable of more than just simple, jammy reds. 2024-2028 – MP
