Viña Peón Mencía de Amandi, Producto de Galicia, Mauricio Lorca, 2023

From 50-year-old Mencía vines on the steep 30°-40° banks of Sil River in the Amandi zone of the region. No oak influence. A deep ruby, opaque hue. It opens with medium-intensity aromas of mulberry compote, lees, paste, red plum jam and flint/struck match. The palate is dry and follows with a medium acidity, a medium extract, medium fine-textured tannins, a medium body and lovely presence and persistence of mulberry compote, red plum jam, lees and flint, and a medium finish. A little unfocused at first but pulls it together in the end; a little time in the bottle will help settle it down. 2025-2026–IR
