At the turn of the millennium, just 20 hectares in the whole of Italy were planted to grow Pignolo grapes. It is a difficult grape to cultivate, producing low and uneven yields. It has seen something of a renaissance in recent years. The 2016 has floral aromas with rose, raspberry and vanilla pod all in the mix. It is medium-bodied, with a grainy texture, and lingering elegant finish. It was matured in French oak barrels for 18 months.
