The iconic Amarone wine style emerged in the 1950s, when local producers experimented with a longer fermenting period for their raisined, Recioto-bound grapes. The resultant dry wine style was dubbed Amarone, in reference to its drier, more bitter character. Amarone wines are unabashedly BIG.
