About Opimian and Membership
What is Opimian?
Opimian is a Canadian not-for-profit wine club, founded in 1973. Members buy wines chosen by our Masters of Wine that are not sold in Canadian retail stores.
How much does membership cost?
$99 a year, plus GST or HST depending on your province. There is no separate joining fee. Membership renews automatically each year, and you can cancel any time before it renews.
Do I need to be a member to buy?
Yes. Opimian is a wine club, not a store, so our wines are for members. Creating an account on the website is the first step; buying the membership is what makes you a member.
Who chooses the wines?
A panel of eight Masters of Wine, which is one of the wine trade's highest qualifications. Each specialises in particular regions, and two of them taste every wine we select.
How often are new wines offered?
We open ten Cellars a year, each with at least fifty wines. A Cellar is open for a few weeks and then closes. There's no obligation to buy from any Cellar.
Can I buy Opimian wines in stores?
No. Opimian wines are not sold in Canadian retail.
Where do you deliver?
Across Canada. In British Columbia, Ontario and rural Saskatchewan, wine is delivered to your home or workplace. In the other provinces and territories, and in urban Saskatchewan, it goes to a licensed pickup location and we tell you when it's ready to collect. Member Services can confirm the exact route for your postal code.
How long does delivery take?
About four to five months from ordering to delivery. We don't keep wine in a warehouse: after a Cellar closes, the wines are shipped from the producers, cleared through customs and sorted by province before they reach you.
Are there events?
Yes. Members can join tastings, dinners and trips to wine regions.
