WHO THEY ARE
Opimian was founded on the expertise of Master of Wine Ken Christie. He passed the torch to Jane Masters, MW in the early 2010’s. In 2022, Opimian solidified it’s confidence in this expertise by bringing on several Canadian Masters of Wine to continue the tradition.
We now benefit from the knowledge and expertise of Igor Rygenkov, MW, Jackie Blisson, MW and Michael Palij, MW. Each with their own perspective and favourite regions, but all with a very high standard of assessment that makes Opimian wines the best of the best.
WHAT IS A MASTER OF WINE (MW)?
Master of Wine is a qualification issued by The Institute of Masters of Wine in the United Kingdom. It is not to be mistaken with a Master Sommelier (MS), which is geared towards individuals working in hotel and restaurant beverage service. Both credentials are regarded as the highest achievement in the wine industry, as applicants must pass an examination, recognized worldwide for its rigour and high standards.
