Medium purple, rich and inviting nose with a beguiling mix of blackberry, licorice, black cherry, cinnamon, sage, black olive, crushed blueberry, and clove. This utterly epic example of Gamay is as near to perfection as it's possible this side of the Pearly Gates. The crunchy, scented, crystalline palate knits together the classic Gamay notes of black fruit with an austere vein of wet gritstone and a joyous dash of floral notes and spice. The finish is more than ample, with the gentle tannins and fine acidity providing a showcase for this mesmeric red. It is crying out for ham, goose or duck. God, this is good, and it's my highest-scoring Beaujolais ever. 2026-2038 – MP.
