Medium lemon colour, lovely nose with just enough going on to pique the interest and yet nothing like the blast of unripe fruit that marks so many New World Sauvignons. Stone fruit and tropical notes including passion fruit, red apple, apricot, gooseberry, yogurt, beeswax, cinnamon, and dried honey. The palate is really taut at the moment with mouth-watering acidity clinging to the tongue alongside pink grapefruit, white peach, Conference pear, Amalfi lemon with sweet spice and vanilla from oak. This is a far cry from commercial, textbook South Africa Sauvignon and to call it such is like saying a Ferrari is a car. Well, it is, obviously, but it is so much more with piercing acidity along with fully mature notes of citrus and stone fruit and none of the dreaded tinned sweet corn or green beans that afflicts so many of the genre. Blind I would say top-drawer Napa Fumé Blanc with the rich mid-palate, integrated oak providing depth and texture and a  fabulous finish that rolls on into tomorrow.Quite possibly the finest Cape Sauvignon to pass these lips. 2029-2032–MP
