Pale ruby hue. A luscious texture welcomes you to the glass but doesn’t outstay its welcome; there is a lighter side, all dried cranberry and fine, ripe tannins. A dried sage and rosemary element adds lift, and the finish is rather intriguing, with cured meats and fresh red berries. 2027-2028–JA
GRAF LAGREIN ALTO ADIGE DOC, 2024
Opaque purple hue. Get Lagrein wrong and it ends up a bullish concoction with incongruous green, chewy tannins. This is something else. There is vibrant plum and blackcurrant sown together by ripe, integrated tannins offering plenty of lift. A
touch of vanilla rounds off the finish. Delicious now, but there’s really no rush. 2027-2035–JA.
