Medium lemon hue. Beautiful nose, with aromas of hazelnut, sweet almond, pastry dough, cashew and salt spray. The palate shows an Alpine purity and lovely mineral core that marks out the best examples of this over-looked grape. Never as blowsy as Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc stock-in-trade is a core of nutty fruit that doesn't rely on oak or extended lees contact for complexity. In fact, it isn't desperately complex and that's part of its appeal; one can drink this all day long. Almond, hazelnut, cashew, almond and notes of wet stone, modelling clay and, on the finish, a saline twist make this utterly delicious on its own. 2027-2030 – MP
