OBAYA SELECCIÓN CASE - 6 BOTTLES EACH: ROSADO AND BLANCO
The two sisters are Ruth, the winemaker, and Ana, who looks after the commercial side of the business – and they make a dynamic team! They do not own their own vineyards but find parcels of vines, often very old, in different parts of Spain, buy the grapes and undertake all the winemaking. They have a strong commitment to the environment and will not work with any vineyards that use chemical treatments; in the cellars, they use only natural yeast and keep winemaking practices as simple and natural as possible. The two wines in this case come from vineyards in Castilla–La Mancha, Spain’s largest wine region, and clearly demonstrate the sisters’ virtuosity – a fresh, rounded Verdejo and a fascinating, food-friendly rosado made from the unusual Bobal grape.

VINO DE LA TIERRA DE CASTILLA, 2025
Pale orange hue. Unusual in that this looks more like an orange wine than a rosé, and even the palate has some grip on the finish that is reminiscent of well-made orange wines. The flavours are of dried apricot and stone fruit, held together by good acidity and impressive frame and texture. With good length, this is an exciting wine. 2027–RB

OBAYA SELECCIÓN BLANCO, VINO DE LA TIERRA DE CASTILLA, 2025
Pale straw hue. Simple but direct and appealing, with notes of almond, crème pâtissière, cooked apple and toast. The palate has a lovely breadth of stone fruit, with notes of white peach, nectarine, pear and red apple. There are leesy notes of toast and cream that add further complexity. Tightly wound and rather delicious at this price. Not one for the cellar; enjoy this now. 2027-2028–MP
