Back by popular demand, this is Nunzio's top wine sourced from a vineyard his grandfather planted in 1953. The grape is Turbiana, sometimes known as Trebbiano di Lugana, or even Verdicchio. The DNA now proves conclusively that Verdicchio is the parent of twins: Trebbiano di Soave and Turbiana. Turbiana, over the centuries, has come to prefer the heavy clay soils of Lugana, whilst Trebbiano di Soave opts for the volcanic hills just to the east. With that viticultural detail out of the way, the 2024 is no small triumph, with a beautiful freshness from the vintage allied to pink grapefruit, apricot, peach, green almond and Amalfi lemon. The palate is expressive and surprisingly full-bodied, with considerable volume on the finish that sees a herbal note of bay and basil mix with the stone fruit. This is a stunning example and will age for a decade.
