Medium purple, pronounced and fresh nose with ripe red currant, boysenberry, black cherry, almond, licorice, and cinnamon. The palate is correspondingly juicy and ripe with layers of red cherry, rose petal and marzipan. The finish looks to the alcohol for a lead but wraps up the ripe fruit and pleasantly astringent tannins. This is a Pinotage for those who don’t like the grape. At this price, it represents astonishing value. Simonsig are making seriously genius wines. 2026-2028 – MP
