Medium ruby hue with an orange rim. With all three of the main varieties within the Castel de Monte DOC included (Nero di Troia, Montepulciano and Aglianico), this could hardly be anything but bold and generous. The oak is prominent but not dominant, and there is orange peel, chocolate, prune and raisin, plus a hint of tobacco leaf. Like a hug from an expensively tailored relative, it finishes flash and assured. Great now and will only improve with age. 2027-2030 – JA
