A big, bold wine, but not one that lacks sophistication and elegance. Right now, the tannins are quite prominent but fin-egrained, and the fruit's density suggests there's plenty of time for them to integrate. A luxury, but a terrific example of top winemaking in the Cape. 2028-2040–NH
THE HIGH ROAD DIRECTOR'S RESERVE, STELLENBOSCH, 2021
An elegant, refined New World take on a Bordeaux blend. The tannins exert some grip, but they're well-handled and in balance with the rich, layered palate, which shows both red and dark fruits. There's the beginning of some development here, but this wine has a long, long life ahead of it. 2026-2040–NH
