Tunila Cannonau di Sardegna DOC-C339

One of the great wonders of the modern viticultural world, Cannonau (a.k.a. Grenache) absolutely kicks it here on the unrewarding granite soils of Sardinia. Sourced from four different parcels, this exudes a nose warm with notes of tinned strawberry, red cherry and raspberry compote. On the palate the red fruit is underpinned by cinnamon, white pepper, baking spice and saddle leather. Although perhaps not in quite the same league as Thistledown, this is nevertheless an unabashedly ripe, juicy and gluggable Grenache that can take a slight chill or duke it out with stews, steak and cheese.
